Salem is 28 miles south of I-44 and equal distance from St. Louis and Springfield, MO. State Highways 72, 32, 19 and 68 intersect Salem.
Salem is located in the middle of the Missouri Ozarks. It is twenty minutes north of the National Ozarks Scenic Riverways National Park (Current River) and Montauk State Park. Mark Twain National Forest blankets the east part of Dent County. Open public lands are plentiful.
